"7 out of 10 girls think that they are not good enough."
I remember how it was when I was 13...how bad society and peer pressure was. Being made fun of because your clothes weren't in style or because you were taller than the rest of the girls or because you didn't "fill out" quite as fast...or just many other reasons why girls don't feel like they fit in....another one being how much money their parents make, what kind of car you drive, how pretty you are....and then with the boys it was, "she doesn't put out"!
Even in my 30s, I still get these feelings from today's society. I am so glad I was 13 in the 80s instead of today's time. What kids go through today has got to be so much harder. My niece has to grow up watching Hannah Montanna and listening to Brittany Spears!
I know how these girls feel, because I was one of them. Being a teen is hard...
That is why I feel it so important to have mentors.
I've seen the commercials about what Dove has been doing to help young girls, and I'm really interested in all of this.
I know things come to us in time. We aren't supposed to know what we want at any certain point in our lives. This is something I am really interested in as well as going back to school. I want to be passionate about a career, but I also want to give back.
The other day I made a comment to a co-worker about wishing I had figured all of this out when I was 18. She said things come to us when we are ready. The Universe has its own plan for us.
